Essential Travel Insurance Advice: Doctors Tips For Holiday Season Trips

As the festive season approaches, nearly everyone is busy packing their bags for the much-anticipated holidays.

Travel is often a cherished plan, filled with opportunities to craft wonderful memories.

However, falling ill during such times is what everyone dreads. Instagram influencer and emergency physician Jeff Yoo recently shared vital advice for those travelling this season.

“Secure travel insurance. I frequently treat visitors who fall ill or get injured in my city, and without travel insurance, the hospital bill can be alarmingly high,” Dr Jeff mentioned in his video, adding that a simple emergency room visit for something mundane like a cut or sprain can cost between $500 $1,000.

“If an operation or hospital stay is required, costs can soar to $50,000 or even higher,” the doctor added.

Avoid the gamble

He stressed these incidents are unforeseen and highlighted the crucial nature of having medical insurance.

“Medical emergencies are unpredictable and can happen to anyone. When travelling, risks are taken more frequently, such as riding a taxi without a seatbelt, trying out an E-scooter with no helmet, drinking more, indulging in substances, or trying new experiences. These behaviours raise the odds of ending up in the ER,” he continued.

'Playing with risk'

Travelling without insurance is akin to taking a dangerous gamble with both your health and finances, as one unexpected injury could cause financial ruin. Jeff encouraged everyone to share this message with loved ones.

“Wishing you safe travels and joyous holidays,” he concluded.
