As we near the New Year, many individuals are either trying to wrap up their fitness pursuits for 2025 or are preparing for 2026. Weight loss frequently tops the list.

However, if you aim to drop those extra kilos swiftly, you need to understand that such strategies may not be sustainable.

In a recent Instagram post on Monday, fitness and nutrition specialist Raj Ganpath, with more than 17 years assisting individuals in transforming their wellness and fitness, revealed the premier method for weight loss.

What shouldn’t you do for weight loss in 2026?

As per Raj, if you aim to shed over 10 kilos in 2026 but have repeatedly encountered setbacks or regained the weight in your past attempts, the key is to "proceed gradually."

The fitness guru cautioned that the issue with trying to lose 10 kilos in a brief three to four-month span and expecting to sustain that loss lies in the approach to weight management.

He elaborated, “Most people do not truly drop 10 kg in just 3 to 4 months. While the internet is filled with success stories suggesting otherwise, they mostly represent exceptions, not the norm.”

The truth, as he states, is that aiming for a 10-kilo reduction in three months resembles expecting every student in a classroom of 50 to score above 90 per cent.

He clarified, “In reality, only about 10 per cent manage that sort of weight loss because it demands significant effort, discipline, and sacrifice. Many fall short of that goal.”

The right strategy

The fitness expert noted that if someone successfully loses 10 kilos within three to four months, repercussions usually follow: “Within the next six to seven months, they likely regain around six to eight kilos.

"This pattern repeats over time, and after a year, one may find they've only shed two to three kilos overall, rendering the method ineffective.”

Hence, according to the coach, a slower pace is key. “Try losing only one kilo a month. Most can handle that—it’s straightforward and manageable, even if gradual.”

He continued, “Thus, in six months, you’d lose six kilos. If you plateau for three months and then drop another kilo or two, by year’s end, you’ve realistically shed seven to eight kilos, far exceeding the fast-paced approach.”

The coach attests that this weight loss strategy is more viable in the long run, offering enduring results. “To remain fit, control your weight, and maintain power over your process, slow down. Slow your expectations, pace, and emotions. The quickest weight loss route involves taking it slowly.”
