Arizona authorities showed commendable dedication after a hiker took a fall from a ledge on the first day of the year.

In a statement released on Friday, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office announced that emergency services were mobilised around 5:55pm on the previous day when a 55-year-old man suffered a significant leg injury.

The sheriff’s office noted the rescue faced hurdles due to harsh weather and environmental conditions.

“Falling temperatures and ongoing rain posed a hypothermia threat, with both the ailing hiker and rescue team beginning to show symptoms,” officials stated.

Moreover, flooding complicated efforts to carry the unidentified hiker to safety.

The rescue team decided to remain with the hiker all night, even lighting a fire to ensure their warmth.

Adverse weather halted aerial support and cancelled multiple planned rescue efforts, leading sheriff's deputies to contact the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA) for a Black Hawk helicopter.

“After a night of organising efforts on the mountain, the Black Hawk team successfully evacuated the hiker at 7:45AM today [Friday, Jan. 2] and turned him over to the medical team,” officials detailed.

Yavapai County Forest Patrol Deputy Jason Kaufman elaborated on the mission's difficulty, sharing with Fox affiliate KSAZ that “planning by several steps is necessary."

Kaufman further mentioned that he decided for the rescue crew to remain with the injured hiker throughout the night.

“They possess basic survival skills: building fires, making splints, and constructing a makeshift shelter for those wounded in extreme situations,” he informed Fox affiliate KSAZ.

Apart from the Bumble Bee operation, deputies dealt with two more incidents on New Year’s Day, as per the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

One scenario unfolded in Wickenburg, where authorities managed a report of a lost female hiker in the Blue Tank Wash area. She was soon located by a deputy and safely guided back to her car.

In a parallel situation, a deputy attended to a male hiker's distress call for being lost in Sedona. He was discovered on a trail and consequently brought back safely.
