Intoxicated Woman Allegedly Attacks Deputy, Claims Mermaid Transformation

An incident involving a Louisiana woman who took a dip without clothing ended unpleasantly for her, as authorities reported.

She reportedly assaulted a sheriff’s deputy who responded to a trespassing report before eventually surrendering to the authorities on Tuesday.

The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office stated that deputies were dispatched in November to a home in the Linville area of Marion after a homeowner reported a neighbour causing a disturbance in their driveway, refusing to leave despite earlier warnings.

Upon the arrival of a patrol deputy, the officers discovered the suspect swimming unclothed in a pond on the complainant’s property.

The woman was later identified as Erin Elizabeth Sutton, 41, from Marion. Initially, Sutton refused to get out of the pond or engage with the deputy, claiming she was "attempting to become a mermaid," as described in a sheriff’s office Facebook post.

After repeated instructions, Sutton finally left the water. Due to the cold weather, emergency medical responders were called to assess her condition, authorities reported.

She was given a blanket, and as the deputy tried to escort Sutton indoors to warm up, she purportedly charged at him.

Officials said Sutton disregarded multiple orders to cooperate and resisted arrest. A taser was utilised but proved ineffective, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sutton was eventually brought to the ground, where she continued to resist by kicking and punching the officer before being controlled.

Sutton was taken to a medical facility for further care. During her transportation, she allegedly threatened to harm deputies and paramedics, officials mentioned.

Since Sutton needed medical treatment at the time, deputies later obtained arrest warrants, which were authorised by a judge at Louisiana’s Third Judicial District Court, as per the sheriff’s office.

Sutton surrendered to the deputies on January 6, 2025, and was taken into custody on several charges, including three counts of resisting an officer with force or violence, two counts of intimidating the public, two counts of assaulting a police officer, disturbing the peace/drunkenness, and trespassing. Her bail was established at $62,000, officials confirmed.
