Trump To Meet Venezuela Opposition Leader Machado Soon

President Donald Trump announced on Thursday his upcoming meeting with Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado in Washington next week.

During his appearance on Fox News' "Hannity," Trump was questioned about a potential meeting with Machado following the US actions in Venezuela and the capture of President Nicolás Maduro.

"Well, it seems she's coming in sometime next week, and I'm eager to greet her," Trump replied.

This marks Trump's initial encounter with Machado, whom the U.S. president remarked "lacks both the backing and esteem in her country" to lead it.

Reports suggest that Trump's non-endorsement of Machado was connected to her acceptance of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, an award Trump believed he merited.

However, Trump later conveyed to NBC News that while he felt Machado shouldn't have received the honour, her acceptance "did not influence my decision" regarding her potential leadership of Venezuela.
